Mac OS Lion and IBM Desktop Tools

[Update 2011-07-29 17:52 PDT] I’m happy to report that after upgrading to Mac OS Lion my Lotus Notes (8.5.2) and Lotus Sametime (8.5.1) applications both work fine. I wasn’t sure that this would go so smoothly, and was ready to roll back to Snow Leopard, but everything is looking fine.

This should be good news for a lot of IBMers and other Notes and Sametime users on Mac OS X. I installed the Java for Lion package right after I did the upgrade, so I can’t say if I would have run into any issues otherwise, but I assume I would have. I initially got Java errors from PGP Desktop.

An issue with the default way that Notes handles POSIX semaphores has been documented by IBM. The issue affects versions 8.5, 8.5.1, and 8.5.2.  8.5.3 has not been released yet, but there is a workaround available.

Otherwise, everything looks good and I’m a happy camper. Nice job Apple!

My lotus notes worked fine when I first installed Lion, however, I got a software update for the OS today and now Lotus Notes tries to launch and then hangs after I enter my notes password. The modal window Lotus Notes is starting, please wait… with a progress bar is visible, but it just stays, for hours.

I tried installing Sametime 8.5.1 and 8.5.2 on Lion on my new macbook air…..both installs seem to hang and sametime does not install. I’m very sad.

I am running into the same hanging problem. I tried the semaphore thing with no success. Very Sad.

    Hi,
same problem here “Lotus Notes is starting ”

When I add “POSIX_SEMAPHORES=1” in ~/LibraryPreferences/Notes Preferences then the app crashes as soon as I launch it 😦
